EURO 2024: Spain Crowned Champions After 2-1 Win Over England
Spain’s national team emerged victorious in the Euro 2024 final, defeating England 2-1 on Sunday night to claim their fourth European championship title.
Mikel Oyarzabal’s 86th-minute goal secured the win, after Nico Williams had put Spain ahead in the second half and Cole Palmer equalized for England. Marc Guehi’s last-ditch effort was thwarted by Dani Olmo, sealing Spain’s triumph.
This victory adds to their previous titles in 1964, 2008, and 2012, all won during a golden era featuring legendary players like Xavi Hernandez, Xabi Alonso, and Andres Iniesta.
England, on the other hand, made history for the wrong reason, becoming the first team to lose consecutive European Championship finals, following their penalty shootout defeat to Italy in 2021.
The English national team’s drought without an international title continues, dating back to their 1966 World Cup victory.
