BREAKING: NiMet Predicts 3-day Thunderstorms, Rains From Wednesday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, often referred to as NiMet, has issued a weather forecast predicting thundery and rainy conditions across the country from Wednesday to Friday.
In the forecast released in Abuja, NiMet anticipates thunderstorms over various states during the morning hours on Wednesday, followed by thunderstorms in different regions later in the day.
Moving to the North Central region, NiMet expects a possibility of light to moderate rains during the morning in Plateau and Nasarawa States, with moderate rains expected later in the day in areas such as the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, Kwara, and Nasarawa States.
In the southern region, a cloudy atmosphere is foreseen, with chances of light rains in parts of Akwa Ibom and Cross River states during the morning hours.
As the day progresses, NiMet predicts rains in several southern states, followed by thunderstorms in certain states in the northeastern region of the country on Thursday morning and later in the afternoon.
For the North Central region on Thursday, there are projections of light to moderate rains during the morning and more moderate rains later in the day in states such as the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, and Plateau.
On Wednesday, thunderstorms are expected over various states in the morning, including Borno, Jigawa, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto.
Later in the day, parts of Gombe, Sokoto, Bauchi, Kaduna, Adamawa, Yobe, Taraba, Kebbi, and Borno may experience thunderstorms.
The North Central region could see light to moderate rains over Plateau and Nasarawa in the morning, with moderate rains likely over areas including the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Benue, Kwara, and Nasarawa later in the day.
As the week progresses, NiMet projects thunderstorms over Sokoto, Kebbi, Borno, and Yobe on Friday morning, with more thunderstorm activity expected over Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba, and Kaduna later in the day.
The North Central region may experience thunderstorms over the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Benue, Nasarawa, and Plateau during the later part of the day.
Cloudy conditions are foreseen over southern states in the morning, with rain anticipated over regions like Osun, Oyo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States in the afternoon and evening.
NiMet’s advice to the public to steer clear of flood-prone areas due to increased urban flooding risk and encourages both the public and airline operators to stay updated on weather reports for better operational planning.
