UPDATED: Must See For iPhone Users As Apple Automatically Turns On Risky Feature
Apple has just released iOS 18.3 for iPhones, but there’s a concerning new default setting in the update that automatically activates a ‘dangerous’ feature.
Previously, users of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro/Max needed to manually enable Apple Intelligence in their settings.
Now, however, these AI features are switched on automatically.
Apple Intelligence collects data from various apps and monitors actions within them, which necessitates significant storage space. Experts caution that the AI system could occupy up to 7GB, no matter what device it operates on.
As a result, activating Apple Intelligence on your iPhone poses certain risks. If you’ve updated to iOS 18.3 and wish to disable the AI system, you’ll need to adjust the default setting manually.
To do this, navigate to the Settings app, scroll down, and select Apple Intelligence & Siri. From there, simply toggle off Apple Intelligence and confirm your choice when prompted.
Launched in December, Apple Intelligence is an embedded AI system in the latest iPhone models. It offers a variety of AI-driven features intended to enhance everyday tasks.
While some experts have labeled the AI system as ‘dangerous’—especially regarding its Notification Summaries capability—Apple touts it as a way to consolidate multiple notifications for easier reading. However, this feature has previously misrepresented notifications, resulting in erroneous or misleading summaries.
Petros Iosifidis, a professor of media policy at City University in London, noted to BBC News that while there are potential benefits to such a feature, the technology isn’t fully developed yet, raising concerns about the risk of disseminating disinformation.
In fact, after the AI feature mistakenly suggested that the BBC had reported that Luigi Mangione, connected to the murder of healthcare insurance CEO Brian Thompson, had shot himself, BBC News lodged a formal complaint with Apple.
