Akpabio Files Petition, Seeks Prosecution of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan Over Assassination Claim

The ongoing political feud between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has intensified, with Akpabio taking legal action. He has officially petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, demanding a thorough investigation into Akpoti-Uduaghan’s public accusation that he was involved in a plot to assassinate her.
Akpabio vehemently denies the allegations, labeling them as false and defamatory. His petition not only calls for a police inquiry but also seeks the prosecution of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for making what he describes as a malicious and baseless accusation. Akpabio has also forwarded his complaint to the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, requesting similar action under laws related to defamation and incitement.
The assassination claim, made by Akpoti-Uduaghan during a public address in Kogi State, alleged Akpabio’s involvement with former Governor Yahaya Bello in a murder plot designed to implicate her constituents. Akpabio insists these statements are politically motivated and lack any factual basis, aiming to damage his reputation amidst a backdrop of previous accusations, including one of sexual harassment that led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension from the Senate.
