Yoruba Epic ‘Labake Olododo’ Soars Past N200 Million

Iyabo Ojo’s indigenous-language epic, “Labake Olododo: The Warrior Lord,” has achieved significant commercial success, surpassing N200 million in box office earnings within just three weeks of its release. The Nollywood veteran’s production continued the strong performance of Yoruba-language films in Nigerian cinemas by topping the box office charts during the weekend of April 11-13, adding another N24.4 million to its impressive total of N202.3 million.
Featuring notable performances from Omowunmi Ajiboye, Kiitan Bukola, and Olarotimi Fakunle, “Labake Olododo” had a strong opening week, grossing N50 million, and by its second week, it had already joined the elite group of Nollywood films earning over N175 million. Its success mirrors that of Eniola Ajao’s “Ajakaju (Beast of Two Worlds),” which also exceeded N200 million last year.
This latest achievement underscores the increasing popularity of indigenous epics in Nigerian cinema, following the successes of films like Wunmi Toriola’s “Queen Lateefah,” which earned over N350 million in 2024, and Odunlade Adekola’s “Lakatabu,” which also crossed the N200 million mark. Kayode Kasum’s “Ajosepo” further solidified this trend with a notable N257.2 million in earnings, demonstrating the strong connection audiences have with culturally rich narratives.
