India and Pakistan Agree to Full Ceasefire Following U.S.-Mediated Talks, Trump Announces

In a significant diplomatic development, US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire after days of intense conflict. “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE,” Trump posted on Truth Social, praising the two countries for their “Common Sense and Great Intelligence.”
The ceasefire comes amid heightened tensions following India’s Operation Sindoor, a retaliatory strike against terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after a deadly terror attack in April. Pakistan responded with missile and drone attacks on Indian territory, leading to civilian injuries and military escalations.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance played key roles in brokering the agreement, engaging with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Rubio stated, “We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace,” and noted that further talks on a wide range of issues will be held at a neutral venue.
Prior to the ceasefire, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, targeting Indian military bases and destroying critical infrastructure, including the BrahMos missile depot and the S-400 air defense system. Pakistani jets employed Fateh-I surface-to-surface missiles and hypersonic weapons to strike Indian installations, inflicting substantial damage.
The ceasefire announcement was confirmed by Pakistan’s foreign minister, while India has not yet issued a statement. The US mediation effort has been pivotal in halting the dangerous escalation between the two nuclear powers.
