FRSC Lauds Abuja FMC’s Investigation into Negligent Staff
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has lauded the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Jabi, Abuja, for taking decisive action by investigating staff accused of neglecting an accident victim. FRSC Corps Marshal Malam Shehu Mohammed stressed the necessity of prompt medical attention to lower death rates and enhance recovery chances for crash victims.
The victim was rescued from a crash site in Abuja by a good Samaritan who took him to FMC for treatment. Mohammed condemned hospitals that reject crash victims brought in by FRSC personnel, noting that the National Road Traffic Regulations (2024) explicitly prohibit such refusals and outline penalties for negligence.
“We urge healthcare providers to prioritise welfare of crash victims and uphold the highest standards of professionalism to save their lives,” he said. The Corps Marshal reaffirmed FRSC’s dedication to collaborating with healthcare institutions and stakeholders to improve road safety and emergency response.
FMC management confirmed eight staff members, including doctors and nurses, are under investigation for professional negligence. The hospital’s Head of Clinical Services, Bioku Muftau, stated that the victims, including one with a head injury highlighted in the viral video, have been treated and discharged.
Mohammed also praised the good Samaritan’s patriotism and encouraged citizens to promote safety and professionalism to save lives. The FRSC aims to reduce crash fatalities significantly through joint efforts with healthcare providers.
