Segun Sowunmi, Atiku’s Former Spokesman Hails Tinubu’s Smarter Leadership Compared to Peter Obi and Others

Segun Sowunmi, a notable PDP chieftain and former spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential campaign, has openly asserted his political independence, declaring on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” that he is “not tied to anybody.” This statement was made in the context of questions about his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu.
Sowunmi was quick to dispel any notions that his meeting with Tinubu signified a break from his allegiance to Atiku Abubakar. He emphasized his autonomy in political decision-making: “I am at liberty as an adult to take decisions. I am not tied to anybody. I am not anti-Tinubu. I own my mouth, I own my words, and I own my arguments.”
He further praised President Tinubu’s political intelligence, stating that Tinubu’s nuanced approach to leadership sets him apart from rivals, including Peter Obi of the Labour Party. “Do you know the difference between Bola and them? He doesn’t have one approach to dealing with everybody. By miles, he (Tinubu) is smarter than them. He is smarter than Peter Obi, he is smarter than them,” Sowunmi said.
This development aligns with a pattern of former Atiku campaign aides engaging with the Tinubu administration, exemplified by Daniel Bwala’s appointment as Special Adviser on Policy Communication last November.
