Tragedy at French Wedding in Goult: Bride Killed in Early Morning Gun Attack
A serene wedding celebration in the picturesque village of Goult turned deadly on June 22, 2025, when masked gunmen opened fire on the bride and guests as the newlyweds were departing. The 27-year-old bride was killed instantly, and three others, including a child, were wounded in the attack that has left the community in mourning.
Prosecutor Florence Galtier confirmed that the assailants, armed and arriving by vehicle, targeted the wedding party around 4:30 am local time. The gunfire resulted in the death of the bride and one of the attackers, who was reportedly shot back during the incident. The attacker may have also been struck by the couple’s car as they tried to escape.
Among the injured were the 25-year-old groom and a 13-year-old passenger, both seriously hurt. The attackers fled the scene on foot after the shooting.
Mayor Didier Perello voiced his shock and frustration: “I’m angry. I’m outraged.” He did not dismiss the possibility that the attack was related to drug-related score-settling, noting the proximity to towns with prior similar violence.
The village hall, rented by the couple in March, hosted 28 guests that night. Authorities have opened a murder investigation involving an organized gang, deploying multiple police units and a helicopter to track the perpetrators.
Local residents fear the incident will tarnish Goult’s reputation. “The last major incident in the village was 125 years ago,” said restaurant owner Guillaume Molinas.
The attack highlights ongoing concerns about narcotics-related violence in France, as the government pledges to intensify efforts against drug crime.
