Ruud van Nistelrooy SACKED After Leicester’s Premier League Collapse

Ruud van Nistelrooy has been officially sacked by Leicester City, bringing an abrupt end to his short-lived tenure as manager—less than two months after the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

The former Dutch striker, who was appointed in November 2024 following the dismissal of Steve Cooper, failed to turn around the club’s fortunes. Despite early optimism, Van Nistelrooy oversaw a dismal run of form that saw Leicester finish 18th in the table, 13 points from safety, and relegated to the EFL Championship.

The 2024–25 season was a disaster for the Foxes, who managed just six wins throughout the campaign. Van Nistelrooy’s lack of experience in English football quickly became evident, and his appointment ultimately failed to deliver the stability the club desperately needed.

In a farewell statement, the outgoing manager said:

“I would like to personally thank the Leicester City players, coaches, academy and all the staff I have worked with for their professionalism and dedication during my time at the Club. I also want to thank the fans for their support and take this opportunity to wish the Club well for the future.”

Leicester have now turned their attention to the 2025–26 season, with pre-season preparations set to begin next week. The club is actively searching for a new manager, and early reports suggest former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche is among the leading contenders. His experience and reputation for building disciplined, competitive teams make him a strong candidate to lead the Foxes’ bid for an immediate return to the top flight.
