UCL: Haaland Sets New Record
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has set a new milestone as the fastest player in Champions League history to reach 50 goals.
The Norwegian forward hit the landmark on Thursday night when he opened the scoring in City’s 2-0 victory over Napoli at the Etihad. Haaland’s header marked his 50th goal in just 49 appearances.
In doing so, he shattered the previous record held by former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy, who required 62 games.
Lionel Messi reached the mark in 66 appearances, though he still holds the record as the youngest to hit 50 goals—aged 24 years and 284 days.
At 25, Haaland now overtakes Kylian Mbappé to move second on that list.
