Federal govt issues fresh update on reopening of tertiary institutions

The Federal government has issued a fresh update on reopening of tertiary institutions.
The federal government of Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari maintained that there is no arrangement for lifting the ban on the higher institutions yet.
Onyxnews Nigeria reports that the coordinator of the presidential task force on Covid-19, Sani Aliyu made this known on Tuesday, June 30, as Nigeria began another phase in easing of lockdown.
Aliyu’s disclosure came after the federal government announced “a safe reopening” of schools for the graduating classes nationwide.
The PTF coordinator went on to say that the federal government cannot afford to sabotage its efforts by reopening the tertiary institution.
He said, all measures recommended and approved by the President were directed towards fighting the deadly Covid-19 crisis.
In the mean time, Aliyu noted that the government will take “pragmatic measures” in ensuring that the education sector does not lose a whole year because of the pandemic.
“Summarily, there is no plan to reopen tertiary institutions until we get to the top of the numbers and also see clearly that we are making significant progress in terms of flattening the curve.
“However, we have taken pragmatic measures to ensure we do not lose a whole year in terms of primary to secondary school transition, hence the president’s approval for schools to reopen so that exiting students could return to school and write their examinations some of which are regional.”
