Donald Trump’s campaign manager contracts coronavirus

Trump’s campaign manager has tested positive for coronavirus as infection spread in White House.
Donald Trump’s campaign manager tests positive to coronavirus as White House cluster spreads insiders to contract the virus.
Bill Stepien received his coronavirus test results today and is reportedly experiencing mild flu-like symptoms.
Stepien traveled to Cleveland with the President and his team on Tuesday for the first presidential debate and was seen in close proximity to Hope Hicks, the President’s top aide who also tested positive.
Stepien was among a group of senior Trump campaign staffers who were tested, but he is the only one whose results came back positive so far. Deputy Campaign Manager Justin Clark’s test results were negative. Stepien will work from home, the official said.
He also attended debate prep sessions with former White House counsellor Kellyanne Conway. Conway also tested positive to the virus today. Ms Conway confirmed her COVID-19 diagnosis in a tweet, saying she has mild symptoms.
“Tonight I tested positive for COVID-19. My symptoms are mild (light cough) and I’m feeling fine,” the tweet said. The pair are the latest major political figures to have contracted the virus after attending a Rose Garden event at the White House last Saturday.
The US President used the event to announce his Supreme Court pick Judge Amy Coney Barrett.
“As always, my heart is with everyone affected by this global pandemic.”
Mr Trump, first lady Melania Trump, top Trump aide Hope Hicks, Republican Utah Senator Mike Lee, Republican North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis and University of Notre Dame President the Reverend John Jenkins have all tested positive to the virus.
According to CNN, many of the guests for Trump’s announcement arrived with masks on, but as the Rose Garden event got underway, masks were virtually nonexistent.
Three journalists working at the White House have also been diagnosed today.
Trump and his wife, Melania were both positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
Trump was taken to Washington hospital the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre for treatment, earlier today.
He walked to his helicopter, Marine One, dressed in a suit, en route to the hospital. He has not transferred power to Vice President Mike Pence, and remains president despite his illness. Mr Trump posted a video filmed in the White House thanking his well-wishers.
“I want to thank everybody for the tremendous support. I’m going to Walter Reed Hospital,” Mr Trump said in the 18-second video.
“I think I’m doing very well, but we’re going to make sure that things work out”, he said.
