Kogi Election: INEC Set To Re-Conduct Elections In Nine Wards

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) revealed on Sunday that a supplementary election will be held in 59 polling units in Ogori/Magongo LGA of Kogi State.
According to Muhammed Haruna, the INEC National Commissioner, he announced that a supplementary election for the LGA will be held on November 18, 2023.
The body stated that it is investigating alleged irregularities in Ogori/Magongo LGA and will take appropriate action, including sanctioning those involved.
The supplementary election will follow the standard procedures.
“The most critical incident occurred in nine out of 10 wards in Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area (LGA). Elections in the other nine wards (Eni, Okibo, Okesi, Ileteju, Aiyeromi, Ugugu, Obinoyin, Obatgben, and Oturu) involving 59 polling units and 15,136 registered voters remain suspended.”
INEC released that, it acted “in line with Section 24(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and Clause 59 of INEC Regulations and Guidelines on the Conduct of Elections 2022, a fresh election will be held on Saturday, 18th November 2023 in the affected polling units.”
It was earlier reported that election results from 18 of the 21 local government areas in the state have been collated as of Sunday evening.
It is noted that Muri Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Usman Ododo, are the top contestants.
Earlier, Dino Melaye alleged vote buying and pre-filled result sheets in Ogori/Magongo LGA.
INEC then suspended the election in nine wards.
