Rivers APC Chairman, Emeka Beke Seeks Ganduje To Overturn Of NWC Decision

Emeka Beke, the embattled Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has appealed to the Party’s National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, to reconsider the decision made by the National Working Committee (NWC) to dissolve the party leadership in the state.
Beke made his appeal in Port Harcourt on Thursday, asserting that the current executive in the state has not yet reached the end of its tenure.
It is important to note that the APC NWC, led by Ganduje, had announced the dissolution of the Rivers state executive committee on Wednesday in Abuja.
In its place, a caretaker committee was appointed to oversee the party’s activities in the state for a period of six months.
The head of this caretaker committee is Chief Tony Okocha, who is known to be affiliated with former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governor, Nyesom Wike.
Wike is currently in a national coalition with the APC.
Some members of the APC expressed discontent with the appointment, particularly highlighting the fact that President Bola Tinubu appointed Wike of the PDP as Rivers minister, disregarding APC members like Tonye Cole, who was the ally of Former Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi and the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 general elections.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Felix Mouka, officially announced the dissolution of the Rivers APC executive committee on Wednesday in Abuja, stating that the decision was reached during the NWC meeting.
“We have resolved at the NWC meeting that Rivers APC should be dissolved and a caretaker committee put in place.
”The committee will have Chief Tony Okocha as chairman and Eric Nwibani as Secretary,” He said.
However, in response to the party’s national leadership decision, Emeka, the former Chairman of the Rivers APC, argued that only the National Executive Committee (NEC) has the authority to dissolve an elected state executive committee according to the party’s constitution.
He stated, “What does the constitution of the party say? Only NEC has the moral right. I am surprised the NWC said it has that power. I don’t think there is any time the NEC gave them (NWC) the power to do that. It is so shocking and surprising.”
