Why Tinubu Won’t Stop Intervening In States’ Crises — Presidency
Presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale has justified President Bola Tinubu’s recent interventions in states like Ondo and Rivers, where political crises have taken place.
Ngelale said that President Tinubu will continue to take action in the interests of maintaining peace and stability across the country.
His comments came in response to questions about President Tinubu’s involvement in these crises.
President Tinubu had previously invited the parties involved in the political crises in Ondo and Rivers to Abuja for talks.
Some critics have accused him of interfering in state affairs and acting like a dictator.
However, the president’s spokesman argues that these interventions are necessary and in the best interests of the country.
Ngelale defended President Tinubu’s actions on a recent TV program, stating that the president did the right thing by trying to resolve the political crises in Ondo and Rivers states.
He emphasized that the president has a duty to maintain peace and order in the country, and that he is simply fulfilling that duty in these cases.
Ngelale said: “That has nothing to do with, of course, political development, destabilisation of a particular region or state or subnational entity that could potentially turn into a national conflagration.
“If the President sees that, he is not going to sit by as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and fold his hands and keep quiet. I think that is what he has done.
“That is to say if you are the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and your primary objective is to make sure that the Nigerian people are safe; that they are able to operate in an environment that is stable and does not place them in any form of insecurity, then you know that if a political crisis is devolving into something that is generating manmade insecurity, then the President needs to step in and he took that wise decision to step in,” the presidential aide maintained.
Since President Tinubu became involved in resolving the crises in Ondo and Rivers, there has been a noticeable improvement in the situation.
However, there are still mixed reactions to his approach, with some people supporting his efforts and others questioning his methods.
