Former US President, Jimmy Carter Is Dead
Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States and a distinguished Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has passed away at the age of 100 in Plains, Georgia, on Sunday.
This news was released through a brief statement issued by the Carter Center.
Since February, Carter had been receiving hospice care at his home.
His beloved wife, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, had died earlier on November 19 at the age of 96, with Jimmy attending her memorial service in a wheelchair.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Carter hailed from a Georgia farming family.
His political journey included serving as a state senator and governor before he emerged victorious in the tight 1976 presidential election against incumbent Gerald Ford.
He held the presidency for one term, from January 1977 to January 1981.
