Fraud Alert: NDDC Warns Against Fake Postgraduate Scholarship Scams

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has raised an alarm over fraudulent activities involving fake postgraduate scholarship offers.

In a statement released from Port Harcourt, Mrs. Seledi Thompson-Wakama, the Commission’s Director of Corporate Affairs, revealed that scammers have been impersonating the NDDC to defraud members of the public.

“The attention of the NDDC has been drawn to fraudulent emails and messages sent to applicants of the commission’s Postgraduate Foreign Scholarship Programme,” she said. These emails, originating from nddcregistry@gmail.com and claiming to be from the ‘Board Registry,’ invite recipients to a non-existent document verification exercise scheduled for May 19-21 in Lagos.

Mrs. Thompson-Wakama warned that the NDDC is not connected to this fraudulent scheme and urged the public to be vigilant. She reiterated that all official scholarship communications are exclusively through the NDDC’s official portal at www.scholarship.nddc.gov.ng.

She advised applicants to ignore any unsolicited requests for money or personal information outside official channels and to report suspicious emails to the authorities promptly. The NDDC also encouraged prospective applicants and former beneficiaries to confirm all information on the official NDDC website: www.nddc.gov.ng.
