President Tinubu Vows Justice for Plateau Wedding Guests Killed in Attack

President Bola Tinubu has issued a stern condemnation of the recent killings of travellers in Plateau State, describing the incident as both “unacceptable and barbaric.” According to a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu has directed the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies to swiftly apprehend those behind the attack.
The tragic event involved the murder of 12 wedding guests, including close relatives of the groom, as they journeyed from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Jos, Plateau State. Several others were injured in the ambush.
Tinubu urged security forces to ensure the perpetrators are not only arrested but also prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. He called for calm among the populace and assured that the government would not allow such acts of violence to go unpunished.
He further stated, “The Government of Plateau State must take decisive action in handling these vicious cycles of violence. The state government must work with security agents to get to the root of this recent incident and use it as a deterrent against future occurrences.”
Reiterating the importance of citizens’ rights, Tinubu asserted, “Freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable. We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear.”
The President also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the governments of Kaduna and Plateau States, pledging ongoing efforts to restore peace and security in the region.
