BREAKING: Retired Soldiers Begins Protest Over Entitled Benefits
A group of retired Nigerian soldiers on Thursday staged a fresh protest in Abuja over the non-payment of their entitlements.
The ex-servicemen had suspended an earlier demonstration on August 4 after a meeting with officials of the Ministries of Defence and Finance, who assured them that their outstanding benefits would be settled by August 10.
However, the protesters, who gathered at the Ministry of Finance headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory, accused the authorities of failing to fulfil the commitments made during last month’s meeting.
One of the demonstrators, identified as Mama G, said the veterans returned to the streets after the assurances given yielded no results.
“We are here because the promises made to us were never fulfilled. We had no choice but to return to the streets. This time around, the protest will be massive”, Mama G said.
