Boko Haram attacks soldiers in Monguno checkpoint, Borno

Nigerian Soldiers at a checkpoint in Monguno, a town in Borno state, were attacked by Boko Haram, Onyxnews Nigeria quotes TheCable.
According to a security source, the insurgents hit the town around 12:30pm today, Saturday June 13 2020, and opened fire on soldiers at a checkpoint in the town.
The soldiers reportedly responded but the insurgents who had sneaked into the town were said to have overpowered them.
The security operatives were said to have retreated to the sector 3 headquarters where they reinforced.
The terrorists and the soldiers exchanged gunfire, while many residents fled into the bush.
This reliable online news platform gathered that there were many internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the town and a source said the insurgents have gained access into the camps. but not the reports are yet to be confirmed.
Few hours ago, Air force jets were patrolling the town while soldiers were on the ground engaging the insurgents in a gun battle.
The attack is happening two days after Boko Haram killed over 60 persons at Faduma Kolomdi village in Gubio local government area of Borno state.
Even with the repeated attacks, the federal government has insisted that it is winning the fighting against insurgency.
President Muhammadu Buhari in his Democracy Day broadcast said his administration has reduced the insurgent.
Buhari added that all forms of crimes across the country had also been downgraded.
