Different reactions have surfaced online displaying Mali citizens rejoicing that the soldiers have taken over the country’s government.
OnyxNews Nigeria reported earlier that Mali’s President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Prime Minister Boubou Cisse were detained by mutinying soldiers on Tuesday night.
It can be recalled that Reuters reported that a regional official said Mali’s president and prime minister are now in the custody of mutinous soldiers, plunging the country into deeper political turmoil.
Updating the citizens on the whole move, a soldier who requested anonymity said: “We can tell you that the president and prime ministers are under our control. We arrested them at his home.”
Reacting to the development, Mali citizens have taken into microblogging platform, Twitter to rejoice over the coup.
Some of the citizens broke into the presidential villa to loot properties and other expensive items.
