2023 Presidency: Osibanjo Not On The List As APC Names Buhari’s Successor
Osibanjo Not On The List Of 2023 Presidential candidate As APC Names Buhari’s Successor.
The 2023 general election would decide who takes over from Muhammadu Buhari’s government, who would be completing his second tenure, and not eligible to run for a third term as stated in the constitution.
Names like Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Abdullahi Ganduje, Ibrahim Musa Kwankwaso, Wamakko, Tambuwal could be heard in the mouths of many as possible candidates for the 2023 general election if power is to remain in the North.
Some politicians called for power rotation from North. They insisted that 2023 presidential candidate should be chosen by political parties based on Zoning. Notable names like Bola Asiwaju Tinubu, Kayode Fayemi, Bukola Saraki, Seyi Makinde and Yahaya Bello were seen as possible candidates. From the South-South and South-East region, people are hoping for a possible return of former president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan who is still qualified to run for the presidential election as constitution demands. Other names includes Peter Obi, Pat Utomi, Yule Edochie, Kingsley Moghalu, Obi Ezekwesili, Rochas Okorocha and Ike Ekweremadu.
However there has been rumour that the ruling party were intending to put all their hope on former president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as they feel he would gather a massive supports from the South-South and South-East region more than any other candidates. The rumour of a possible return of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to Aso Rock Villa escalated after some APC members paid him a visit on his 63rd birthday, and some sources claimed that the meeting was done behind closed doors.

According to report from SaharaReporters, the All Progressive Congress are planning on pairing former president, Goodluck Jonathan and Kaduna state governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai for the 2023 general election.
From the report gathered by Sahara Reporters, Goodluck Jonathan is the best option for the ruling party as far as zoning is concerned. They feel he got the experience and he would gather more supports than any other candidates would do in the South.
It’s been reported that the ruling party prefers to pick Goodluck Ebele Jonathan over Bola Asiwaju Tinubu because Bola Tinubu still have some enemies in the Yorubaland and this may cost them in 2023, they don’t want to make any costly mistake which would see the People’s Democratic Party win them.
The Ruling party wants a paring of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and Nasir El-Rufai, with the former president vying for the position of the President and El-Rufai as the Vice president as a result of power rotation.
Although Nasir El-Rufai said that power rotation isn’t constitutional, it’s only done in line with the agreement of the party.
Due to the level of development El-Rufai put in place when he was the minister of the Federal Capital Territory and even as the governor of Kaduna state, the ruling party sees him as the ideal candidate when power shifts to the North.
Vice president, Yemi Osibanjo seems not to be on the list of possible presidential candidates as far as the ruling party’s plan is concerned. Perhaps they have got a special position for him when he leaves power.
