To clear all doubts and give more insights to the viral video, the Defence Headquarters has responded in a statement that was signed by the Acting Director, Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko who confirmed that the viral video was released on Friday 19 March 2021.
The Army had noted that in the video, Sunday Ogboho had acknowledged himself, that the soldiers were sent to spy on him because of the treasonous statement he made concerning a plan to divide the country.
Recall Igboho had officially announced some days ago, that the Yoruba nation has ceased to be a part of Nigeria.
The statement from the military further explained that the force was so busy and not in Sunday Igbohio’s league to send any of its officials to spy on him as he was not seen as a threat yet.
The statement further mentioned that due to the training the army gave its personnel, it was impossible for them to act or behave in the way the captured ‘soldiers’ behaved at Sunday Igbohos residence.
While explaining how the impersonators were caught, he revealed that some members of Igboho’s group were in pursuit of some other people when they ran into the fake military men and another Airforce official.
As they were visitors in the area, Igboho’s men quickly bundled them back to their leader’s house and interrogated them.
The Nigerian military has hereby mentioned that at the moment, investigations are still on to reveal the plan and mission of the fake military man that day.
It also warned anyone trying to impersonate the Army so as to drag it to such disrepute should immediately stop such plans.
