Liverpool Player Luis Diaz’s Father Finally Rescued
Luis Manuel Díaz Jimenez, who is the father of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, was recently freed after being kidnapped by ELN guerrillas in Colombia.
After spending 12 days in captivity, the 58-year-old was released on Thursday and is reported to be safe under the care of a United Nations (UN) committee.
The release was made possible through the efforts of a commission comprised of representatives from the UN and the Catholic Church, who negotiated with the ELN.
Video footage captured helicopters patrolling the border area between La Guajira and Cesar, where the kidnappers eventually handed over Luiz Jimenez. It should be noted that although the Colombian government had previously announced the commencement of the operation to secure Jimenez’s release on Wednesday, the actual release took place today.
Aerial videos depicted helicopters continuously flying around the border region connecting La Guajira and Cesar, where the captors were supposed to release Luiz Jimenez.
Upon mutual consent, the helicopter had been stationed at Valledupar airport, as it was arranged for the ELN to transfer the hostage to the designated committee within the Serranía del Perijá.
Exclusive access to the aircraft was granted solely to humanitarian workers and the helicopter staff, who will transport Diaz’s father to a medical facility for a thorough examination after his harrowing experience.
