‘Empower Aiyedatiwa As Acting Governor’, Ondo APC Insisted
Following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu in the ongoing political crisis in Ondo State, some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state are insisting that the deputy governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, should be granted the authority to serve as the acting governor.
This demand is based on constitutional provisions and aims to resolve the political deadlock in the state.
President Tinubu has called for the maintenance of the current situation and has encouraged Aiyedatiwa to continue in his role as the deputy governor.
However, the Ondo APC stakeholders held a meeting in Akure, where they expressed concerns regarding the prolonged absence of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
They stated that this absence has had a negative impact on the governance and economy of the state.
In a subsequent statement released after their meeting, the Ondo APC Progressives Stakeholders, led by former member of the House of Representatives Hon. Afe Olowookere and former APC Secretary in the state Hon. Raman Rotimi, emphasized the urgency of empowering Aiyedatiwa to assume the responsibilities of the acting governor.
This move is seen as necessary to address the issues faced by the state and ensure effective governance during Governor Akeredolu’s absence.
“APC party members should be allowed to participate and determine those to be appointed or elected into political and party offices.
“Elders and leaders of the party must be recognised and given their pride of place in the party, rather than being neglected and ostracised by the party.
“The system of writing the names of party executives and candidates without due process will be objected to and resisted with all political and legal means possible,” the statement reads.
