Climate Watch: NiMet Predicts 3-day Sunshine And Haziness From Sunday
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) forecasts that the weather will be sunny and hazy from Sunday to Tuesday throughout the country.
According to the latest weather outlook from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) in Abuja on Sunday today, the northern region of Nigeria can expect sunny skies with a hazy atmosphere during the forecast period of Sunday through Tuesday.
In addition, the North Central region is also expected to have sunny skies and a hazy atmosphere during the same time period.
The forecast for the inland states of the South calls for cloudy skies with some sunshine.
According to Forecast, The coastal cities can expect thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, so residents should be prepared for the possibility of inclement weather.
In addition, the northern region should be on the lookout for dust haze, which may cause respiratory issues for sensitive individuals as well.
“Sunny skies in a hazy atmosphere are expected over the North Central region during the forecast period.
“Cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are envisaged over the Inland states of the South and the coastal cities with prospects of morning mist over Delta, Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River and Akwa Ibom.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Rivers, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom states,” it said.
NiMet’s forecast for the northern region on Tuesday includes dust haze, with visibility of 2km to 5 km.
The North Central region is also expected to have dust haze.
The inland states of the South and the coastal cities can expect cloudy skies with intermittent sunshine. This forecast covers the entire forecast period.
“Dust particles are in suspension, public should take necessary precautions. People with Asthma and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present weather situations.
“Moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash floods. The public is advised to take necessary caution, avoid driving and walking through flood waters.
“Strong winds are likely to precede and accompany the thunderstorms, the public is advised to take necessary safety precautions.
“Disaster Risk Managers, Agencies and individuals should be proactive, to avert loss of lives and property during the rainy season,” it said.
NiMet has advised airline operators to consult its office for up-to-date weather reports in order to ensure safe and efficient operations.
