‘I Received Death Threats Over Pregnancy Rumours ’ – Singer Tems
Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, recently opened up about receiving death threats due to pregnancy rumors.
These rumors emerged after she attended Burberry’s Spring/Summer 2024 London Fashion Week show, wearing a black dress that some interpreted as a sign of pregnancy due to its fit.
In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, Tems shared that she received direct messages on social media questioning her association with American rapper Future, who was rumored to be the father of her alleged child.
However, Tems clarified that she has never met Future, despite collaborating with him and Drake on the Grammy-winning song, “Wait For U.”
She said: “When I heard [the rumours] that I was pregnant, I didn’t actually think anybody believed it. I didn’t know it was serious until I started getting messages like death threats, like, ‘How dare you? Of all the people in the world, Future, really?’ And I’ve never met him in my life. So it’s crazy.”
In addition to addressing the pregnancy rumors, Tems expressed her desire to direct a music video for Nigerian artist Asake.
She emphasized that her interest in collaborating with Asake is solely professional, aimed at directing his music video.
