One killed, 12 Injured In Missile Attacks On Ukraine

On Tuesday, missiles were launched by Russia onto the Ukrainian capital and other cities, resulting in the loss of one life and injuring dozens of individuals.

The rockets struck high-rise buildings, causing fires and significant damage.

Journalists from AFP in Kyiv reported hearing more than a dozen loud explosions as air defenses were activated, causing buildings in the city center to shake.

In the city of Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine, one person was killed and over 20 others were injured.

This occurred as a result of at least four missile strikes that damaged multiple buildings and civilian infrastructure in the city center.

Oleg Sinegubov, the head of the city’s military administration, provided this information.

The Ukrainian air force stated that Russia was using Kindzhal missiles in these attacks, with additional missiles heading toward the capital and the southern and western regions of Ukraine.

These attacks occurred one day after Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that his forces would intensify strikes on military targets following an unprecedented Ukrainian attack on the Russian city of Belgorod over the weekend.

The mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, reported multiple explosions and debris from the downed missiles hitting various parts of the capital.

He said 10 people had been injured in a multi-storey block of flats in the Solomiansky district “where a fire broke out as a result of a missile attack”.

The military administration confirmed that debris had struck the roof of a nine-story building and another multi-story building in the Pechersk district.

Additionally, fires broke out in a supermarket and a warehouse.

In the city’s northern Podil district, “the territory of a civilian infrastructure facility is believed to have been hit”, Klitschko said.

The mayor also mentioned that certain areas experienced power outages in civilian infrastructure and residential buildings across four districts.

Temporary water pressure issues were reported in some areas due to the supply network being affected, and a gas pipe was damaged in one district.

“As soon as the security situation allows it, we will definitely restore electricity to everyone,” the city’s military administration said.

These recent attacks follow a wave of strikes initiated by Russia on December 29, targeting several Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, which resulted in the loss of 39 lives.

Russia continued its attacks on Ukrainian cities during New Year’s Eve, with Kyiv announcing it had successfully intercepted a “record” number of drones launched by Russia.
