We Are Not Owing MTN Interconnect Charges – Globacom Claims
Globacom Ltd, a telecommunications company based in Nigeria, has refuted claims that it owes MTN interconnect charges.
A credible source within Globacom has confirmed that the amount due, which is N1.6 billion, has been paid without any dispute.
The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) issued a public pre-disconnection notice, signed by Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs, on Monday, January 8.
This notice mentioned that Glo had not settled its outstanding debts despite previous attempts to resolve the issue.
The NCC further stated that upon reviewing the application and circumstances surrounding the unpaid charges, it found no significant or justifiable reasons for Glo’s failure to pay the interconnect charges.
The Glo authority said: “All subscribers are requested to take notice that the commission has approved the partial disconnection of Globacom to MTN.
“This is in accordance with Section 100 of the Nigerian Communications Act (2003) and paragraph nine of the Guidelines on Procedure for Granting Approval to Disconnect Telecommunications Operators (2012).
“At the expiration of 10 days from Jan. 8, 2024, subscribers of Globacom will no longer be able to make calls to MTN but will be able to receive calls.
“The Glo official said a proper cross checking of facts should have been done before concluding that the telco was owing MTN.
“We are not owing MTN any interconnect charges,” Part of the public notice read.
The Globacom official also emphasized that their company was the first telecommunications company in Nigeria to introduce the pay-per-second billing system, which disrupted the monopoly held by foreign companies.
Therefore, the report claiming that Globacom, a fully indigenous Nigerian telecommunications company that has revolutionized access to communication across all levels, is false.
