I Will Go Crazy If I Win Grammy – Davido
Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, expressed his excitement about the possibility of winning the inaugural Best African Music Performance category at the 66th Grammy Award Ceremony tonight.
Davido’s song “Unavailable” featuring Musa Keys is among the five nominated songs in the category.
During an interview with Billboard at the Pre-Grammy show, Davido mentioned that he would celebrate joyously if he were to win the award, but he also emphasized his happiness for any African artist who emerges victoriously.
“I am just happy that we all get to shine. What if there was no [African] category? So, at the end of the day we should all be happy that we have this category, something to call our own. Whoever wins, it’s okay. If I win, we are celebrating. We go crazy,” he said.
In addition to the Best African Music Performance category, “Unavailable” will be competing against Burna Boy’s “City Boys,” Ayra Starr’s “Rush,” Asake’s “Amapiano,” and Tyla’s “Water.”
Davido is also nominated in two other categories: Best Global Music Album for “Timeless” and Best Global Music Performance for “Feel.”
For the Best Global Music Performance award, he will be up against Burna Boy, Arooj Aftab, Silvana Estrada, Béla Fleck, Falu, and Gaurav Shah.
Meanwhile, in the Best Global Music Album category, he will compete against Burna Boy, Susana Baca, Shakti, and Bokante.
The Grammy Award Premiere Ceremony will be held tonight at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
