Ramon Fonseca, a prominent Panamanian lawyer and co-founder of Mossack Fonseca, the law firm at the center of the international “Panama Papers” scandal, has passed away while awaiting sentencing in his money-laundering trial, according to his legal representative.
Fonseca, 71, died in a hospital in Panama City on Thursday night, his lawyer confirmed to AFP.
He had been hospitalized due to health concerns, which had prevented him from attending the trial that began on April 8. The cause of death was not disclosed.
