NBA Africa Introduces Accelerator Program For Early-stage Startups In Africa
NBA Africa recently unveiled a new initiative aimed at supporting early-stage startups across the continent.
The program, known as the “Triple-Double: NBA Africa Startup Accelerator,” will be overseen by ALX Ventures, a tech incubator focused on equipping Africa’s tech innovators with the necessary skills and resources to establish and expand their startups successfully.
The accelerator is specifically targeting startups in Africa that are working on solutions related to event management and ticketing, youth development, AI, and digital marketing within the sports and creative industries.
The selected ten startups will receive invaluable mentorship and financial backing to facilitate their growth within these sectors.
Additionally, they will have access to guidance from mentors including NBA Africa and ALX leadership, as well as other industry stakeholders, to assist them in product development, business expansion, and market strategy.
A key highlight of the program is the Demo Day scheduled for September in New York City which will overlap with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
During this event, the participating startups will have the opportunity to pitch their products to a distinguished panel comprising top leaders from the U.S., Africa, and beyond.
Following the pitches, the panel will select four winning companies who will be granted financial assistance, mentorship, and the chance to collaborate with NBA Africa and the Basketball Africa League (BAL) on their ongoing and future projects in the region.
“We are thrilled to launch an accelerator program based on the continent and focused on early-stage African startups,” said NBA Africa CEO Clare Akamanzi.
“This groundbreaking new initiative reflects our commitment to expanding the African sports ecosystem, and these incredible companies will be at the forefront of shaping the future of sport on the continent.”
Interested startups have until May 31 to apply for the program, after which the top 10 submissions will be shortlisted for further consideration.
