JUST IN: UniAbuja Appoints 41-year-old Maikudi As Acting VC
The University of Abuja’s Senate has appointed Aisha Maikudi, the youngest Professor of Law in the institution, as the acting Vice Chancellor.
Maikudi, a Professor of International Law and the current Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics, was nominated during the valedictory Senate meeting with outgoing Vice Chancellor Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah announcing her appointment.
Na’Allah mentioned that Maikudi’s role is temporary pending ratification by the governing council after his tenure ends on June 30,2024.
In her acceptance speech, Maikudi expressed gratitude to the Senate for their confidence in her abilities.
She said, “I want to extend my deepest respect and appreciation to you all for the strong support and unwavering commitment that you have accorded me.”
Born on January 31, 1983, Maikudi completed her education at Queens College, Lagos, obtained her LLB from the University of Reading, an LLM from the London School of Economics & Political Science, and a PhD in International Law from the University of Abuja in 2015.
Joining the University of Abuja in 2008 as a Lecturer II, Maikudi climbed the ranks to become a Professor in 2022. She holds the distinction of being the first female Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2018 and later served as the inaugural Director of the University of Abuja International Centre in 2019.
Maikudi’s academic pursuits have taken her to various national and international conferences in countries such as the UK, US, South Africa, Germany, Italy, and Egypt, where she has conducted extensive research on United Nations Law.
She is also affiliated with professional organizations like the Nigerian Bar Association, Nigerian Law Teachers Association, and International Federation of Women Lawyers.
