BREAKING: Germany Captain, Gundogan, Announces Retirement From International Football
Germany’s national football team captain Ilkay Gundogan has decided to retire from international football after captaining his team during Euro 2024.
Citing a combination of physical and mental fatigue, Gundogan expressed his reasons for stepping back from the international stage.
“After a few weeks of reflection, I have come to the conclusion that it is time to end my national team career,” Gundogan wrote on social media.
“I look back with great pride on 82 international matches for my home country – a number that I could never have dreamed of when I made my debut for the senior national team in 2011.”
This announcement comes in the wake of retirements by other key players like Toni Kroos and Thomas Mueller.
Kroos announced his retirement following Euro 2024, while Mueller ended his international career just last month.
It appears to be a period of transition for German football, with key players stepping down and making way for the next generation.
