BREAKING: Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Facing ’20-year Jail Term’ Summoned To Court
Pavel Durov, the CEO of Telegram, is reportedly facing a 20-year jail sentence if found guilty.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Sunday after his arrest at a Paris airport for alleged violations related to his widely used messaging application.
Russia has criticized France for its perceived lack of cooperation following Durov’s arrest at Le Bourget airport on Saturday night.
The preliminary investigation into the case involves accusations including fraud, drug trafficking, cyberbullying, organized crime, and the promotion of terrorism.
Durov stands accused of neglecting to address the illicit activities carried out using his platform.
“Enough of Telegram’s impunity,” said one investigator who expressed surprise that Durov flew to Paris knowing he was a wanted man.
