Naira Marley Responds to Critics: Blame Me, Not My Religion, for My Mistakes

Nigerian musician Abdulazeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has publicly addressed criticisms urging people to hold him accountable for his actions rather than blaming his religion.
In a recent post on his X (formerly Twitter) account, the controversial artist highlighted the difference between the perfection of Islam and the imperfections of its followers.
“Islam is perfect, Muslims are not. If I make a mistake, blame me, but not my religion,” Naira Marley stated.
His comments come amid ongoing controversies surrounding his name, particularly following the death of his former signee, Mohbad, in September 2023.
The tragic incident sparked public outrage, with many accusing Naira Marley and his associates of involvement in the young artist’s death. Despite the accusations, no concrete evidence has emerged linking him to the incident.
Reacting to attempts to “cancel” him over the controversies, Naira Marley has maintained a resilient stance. On December 30, 2024, he made it clear through a post on X that he believes only a higher power has the right to judge him. “Only God can cancel me,” he wrote.
The artist’s recent statements have generated mixed reactions across social media.
@Mr_Lasdon wrote, “This is why Muslims are encouraged to act according to the teachings of Islam, we should always reflect and be good ambassadors to our religion.”
@Olumachoo wrote, “Well said! Islam, like any faith, is pure. It’s people who fall short. Judge individuals, not religion.”
@MD_Jatta wrote, “Oh no, you’re the perfect representation of your religion—flaws and all. By the way, if you can read actual Arabic (which I can), I’ll pick a song from your terrible playlist and torture my ears with it all day long.”
@ObinnaCEO added, “No religion is perfect, just as no human is. Faith is meant to guide, not to claim superiority. What matters is how we live, treat others, and strive for truth.”
