Tinubu Appoints New Members To University Governing Councils
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Mr. Chisom Obih to the Governing Council of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.
Presidential spokesperson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, announced the appointment in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, noting that it follows the death of a former council member.
Tinubu also named Prof. Ralph Akinfeleye to the Governing Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State. Akinfeleye, former Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, chairs the Centre of Excellence in Multimedia and Cinematography/Unilag Radio 103.1 FM and Television.
He previously served on the Governing Council of Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja, and now replaces Mr. Wahab Owokoniran, who has been appointed Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Transport, Daura, Katsina State.
In addition, Prof. Ibrahim Yakasai has been appointed Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences and Technology, Tsafe, Zamfara. Other appointments in the institution include Mr. Hamisu Yelwa as Registrar, Usman Nakazalle Sanusi as Bursar, and Dr. Shehu Liman as Librarian.
Yakasai, a retired Nigerian Army Colonel and current Provost of Bayero University’s College of Health Sciences, Kano, also chairs the Committee of Provosts of Medical Colleges in Nigeria and serves on the Governing Council of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Otukpo, Benue State.
An alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained his MBBS, Yakasai studied in the UK under a European Economic Commission scholarship.
He is a member and fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, holds a Master’s in Medical Education from the University of Winchester, and has completed fellowships in the USA. He is also a former Director-General of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board.
