JUST IN: Abuja-Kaduna Train Service Set To Resume Work— NRC
The Abuja–Kaduna Train Service (AKTS) resumed operations on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, after several weeks of rigorous inspections, safety evaluations, and staff retraining carried out by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC).
To mark the restart, the Managing Director/CEO of NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, joined both passengers and staff on the first trip since the August incident. His participation was aimed at boosting public confidence and personally overseeing the service’s return.
The train departed Idu Station in Abuja, made a stop at Kubwa to board more passengers, and arrived safely at Rigasa Station in Kaduna. A return journey was completed later the same day, confirming the full restoration of services on the corridor.
Speaking with journalists at Rigasa, Dr. Opeifa expressed gratitude for the successful recovery process and emphasized the importance of a modern rail system in strengthening national unity and economic development. He highlighted President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s continued investment in rail infrastructure across Nigeria.
The NRC chief pledged to further reposition the corporation by fast-tracking ongoing projects, maximizing existing rail assets, rehabilitating available rolling stock, expanding routes, upgrading customer experience, and modernizing AKTS operations.
He also announced the creation of a Customer Service Department dedicated to promptly resolving passenger complaints and improving service delivery.
On security, Dr. Opeifa assured travelers of the corporation’s firm commitment to their safety and welfare. He pointed out the visible deployment of security agencies at stations and along the corridor, as well as discreet measures designed to enhance protection.
Reiterating his vision, Dr. Opeifa stated that the NRC is committed to becoming a world-class, passenger-friendly service provider capable of driving socio-economic growth through safe, reliable, and modern rail transport systems nationwide.
