BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu Reportedly Goes Blind In DSS Custody
“I’m Going Blind” Nnamdi Kanu has lamented in court.
Onyxnewsng reports that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu has requested glasses, claiming that he is going blind.
Kanu filed a complaint on Wednesday, as his case was scheduled to be heard in court today.
Kanu claims he hasn’t been allowed to use his family’s reading glasses since his re-arrest.
The defendant, speaking through his main lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN, told Justice Binta Nyako that his glasses were shattered while being picked up in Kenya, where he was arrested.
He also alleged that the glasses he brought to Nigeria when he was originally arrested in 2015 were taken by the Department of State Services (DSS) and that he has yet to receive them.
Kanu further said that he was not allowed to borrow clothes from his family, so he has been wearing the same shirt since his re-arrest in June of last year.
Kanu is requesting that the accusations against him be dismissed since the alleged crimes were not committed in Nigeria. He further stated that the Federal Government had produced no prima facie case against him during the proof of evidence in support of the allegations.
On Wednesday, the separatist leader’s trial continued. Kanu faces 15 charges, including terrorism, treason, provocation, and managing a criminal organization. Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), had earlier pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
The Federal High Court in Abuja, led by Justice Binta Nyako, has postponed the court’s decision until April 8, 2022. Mike Ozekhome (SAN), Kanu’s Lead Counsel, contended on Wednesday that his client, Kanu, was unusually renditioned. He claimed Kanu’s alleged crimes were without merit, noting that the charges did not specify where or when they occurred.
