BREAKING: Former President Dies
A former President of Zambia, Rupiah Banda, died on Friday at the age of 85 after a long battle with colon cancer, according to his son Andrew.
“He is gone”, Andrew Banda told an AFP correspondent in Lusaka.
From 2008 to 2010, the country’s fourth leader since independence from Britain served for three years, a period marked by economic growth and allegations of corruption.
Banda was vice president when his predecessor, Levy Mwanawasa, died suddenly of a stroke, thrusting him into the presidency.
Biography of Rupiah Banda Rupiah Bwezani Banda is a Zambian politician who was the fourth president of Zambia from 2008 to 2011.
During the presidency of Kenneth Kaunda, Banda held important diplomatic posts and was active in politics as a member of the United National Independence Party.
