Japanese Govt Denies Special Visa Scheme For Nigerians In Kisarazu
The Japanese government has debunked claims that it plans to introduce a special visa programme for Nigerians to move to Kisarazu, the city recently twinned with Nigeria under a new cultural exchange deal.
The clarification comes after the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), held last week in Yokohama, where the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) unveiled the “JICA Africa Hometown” initiative.
The programme is aimed at boosting cooperation between African nations and select Japanese municipalities.
Under the scheme, four Japanese cities were paired with African countries: Kisarazu with Nigeria, Nagai with Tanzania, Sanjo with Ghana, and Imabari with Mozambique.
Authorities stressed that the partnerships are strictly for cultural, educational, and developmental exchanges — not immigration privileges.
