Real reason NYSC suspended orientation camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has revealed the real reason the orientation camp was suspended.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director General, Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, has revealed the true reason orientation camp exercise was suspended.
Explaining the reasons, Ibrahim said that the decision was taken as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of the deadliest Covid-19 known as coronavirus.
The Brigadier General in a phone conversation with Daily Trust, said no case of the virus has been recorded as at the time of filing this report.
Last week Thursday, March 12, NYSC performed the swearing-in ceremony for the 2020 Batch A, Stream 1 corps members, who on Tuesday 10 went into the orientation camps and to finish up with the orientation camp on March 30.
NYSC Suspends Orientation Camp Nationwide
The management of National Youth Service Corps Scheme has suspended the ongoing orientation exercise in all camps across Nigeria to stop the spread of coronavirus pandemic.
On Wednesday, the scheme released a statement signed by the NYSC management, and it stated that all corps members would proceed to their places of primary duties.
The Youth Service Corp members will be sent to their places of primary assignment while they are expected to return to camp when situation becomes better.
The statement read thus:
“IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: SUSPENSION OF THE ON-GOING ORIENTATION COURSE
“Sequel to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic which led to the cancellation of the National Sports Festival, Management of the National Youth Service Corps Scheme wishes to announce the suspension of the on-going Orientation Course for the 2020 Batch “A” Stream 1 Corps Members.
“Therefore, the Corps Members shall be posted to commence their primary assignments forthwith, while they shall be invited back to the Orientation Camps when the situation improves, just like it happened a few years ago when the Nation was confronted by the Ebola virus threat.
Management wishes to state that no Corps Member or Camp Official has contracted the virus.”
Meanwhile, the management also suspended the slated yearly National Sports Festival until the Coronavirus has been curbed.
