Reps take ‘major step’ over demolition of Nigerian High Commission, Ghana issues apology
The House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs disclosed that Ghana should be ready to face the consequences for demolishing the Nigerian Embassy staff apartments in Accra.
Onyxnews Nigeria reports that the Foreign Affairs Chairman, Yusuf Buba, in a statement issued on Monday, stated that the demolished Nigerian Embassy building was external aggression that meddled the International Rights of Nigeria.
Ghana’s govt claimed that some unknown persons allegedly carried out the demolition of apartments.
Buba said the demolition is a gross violation of all conventions and treaties on diplomatic relations and friendship between both west African countries.
Speaking on the demolition, he quoted a witness who narrated how a heavy-duty bulldozer arrived at the diplomatic premises and broke through the gate.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian officials have said they are sorry about the demotion of apartments at the Nigerian high commissioner’s residence.
Armed men supervised the demolishing of the apartments by bulldozers in Accra, the country’s capital.
According to Embassy officials, the men threatened to shoot if they obstruct their operations.
Some Nigerians in Ghana surrounded the premises of the High Commission to condemn the demolition and demand action from the Ghanaian authorities.
The angry Nigerians carried placards, screaming: “Nigerians Lives Matter”. They were stopped by the Police from entering the premises.
