Nigerian Former Senate President, Saraki’s Loyalist Dumps PDP
Abdulwahab Issa, the chosen candidate of former Senate President Bukola Saraki for Ilorin East/Ilorin South Federal Constituency during the February 25, 2023 election, has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
Mr Abdulwahab, who previously held several political positions, including spending two terms as chairman of a local government council and member of the Federal House of Representatives (2007-2011) as a political godson of Saraki, lost the opportunity to represent his constituency again in the National Assembly to Yinka Aluko, former Special Adviser to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq on special duties during the February election.
Mr Abdulwahab therefore broke his long-standing relationship with Saraki by resigning his PDP membership just three weeks before the election to declare his support for the state governor’s reelection ahead of Saturday’s election.
The former lawmaker, in a letter, addressed to PDP stakeholders in his ward at Balogun Fulani, Ilorin, said, “I write to inform you of my resignation as a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from Tuesday 14th March 2023.
“I appreciate the opportunity given to me which made me serve in various capacities under the PDP.”
