BREAKING: Abba Kyari Granted Bail After 18 Months In Jail
A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari in a case where he, along with two of his siblings, is accused of failing to declare assets to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The NDLEA had filed a 24-count charge against Kyari and his siblings, Mohammed Baba Kyari and Ali Kyari, resulting in their arraignment last month.
During a ruling on Thursday, Justice James Omotosho granted conditional bail to Abba Kyari, setting the bail amount at N50 million with two sureties of the same sum.
Additionally, the sureties must possess property valued at N25 million within the court’s jurisdiction, among other specified conditions.
Meanwhile, the judge noted that even if Abba Kyari fulfills the bail conditions, the endorsement of his release warrant is contingent upon developments in another related case. In that separate case, he is being tried alongside four others for their alleged involvement in illicit drug dealings.
Abba Kyari has previously been denied bail twice in the said case, which is currently before Justice Emeka Nwite, also of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
It is worth mentioning that Justice Omotosho had previously granted bail to Kyari’s two siblings in the same case.
