Why We Quickly Buried Mohbad – Father Reveals

Joseph Aloba, the father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, who was popularly known as Mohbad, has spoken on the swift burial of his son, who tragically passed away at the age of 27 on September 12 and was buried the following day.

In a recent interview shared via Instagram by Temilola Sobola on Tuesday, Aloba attributed the quick burial to Yoruba culture. He explained that in Yoruba tradition, it is customary not to delay the burial of a deceased person when both parents are still alive. He added that if Mohbad had passed away at an older age, the option of preserving his body in a mortuary for a later date might have been considered.

Aloba also revealed that the piece of land where his son was laid to rest belonged to Mohbad himself, and he had given it to him with the intention of building a church on it. He clarified that the decision to proceed with a swift burial was in line with Yoruba customs and beliefs.

He stated, “In Yoruba land, his corpse is not the kind to be kept when both of his parents are still alive. That land where Mohbad was buried is his only land, that is the only land I know him to have owned. Truly he gave me the land to build my church because we had both agreed to build the church there, and since that’s the only land I knew him to have.”

Mohbad, formerly signed to Marlian Music under the ownership of Naira Marley, departed from the label in February 2022. His management had announced a candlelight procession and tribute night for the late artist on Thursday.

Additionally, the Lagos State Governor had invited the Department of Security Services to participate in the investigation of the late singer’s passing.
