IMO Election: APC Uzodinma Emerged As Winner

The recent state governorship election in Imo State has concluded, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Hope Uzodimma, the candidate from the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the winner.
The state Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, announced the results at INEC’s state collation centre in Owerri, the state capital, on Sunday morning.
According to the official announcement, Hope Uzodimma secured a total of 540,308 votes, making him the clear victor.

Athan Achonu of the Labour Party garnered 64,081 votes, positioning him in the third place.
Anthony Ejiogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) secured 6,392 votes, placing him in fourth position, while Jack Ogunewe of the Action Alliance (AA) came fifth with 5,756 votes.
The state’s Returning Officer said, “I, Prof. Abayomi Fasina, I was the Returning officer for the Imo state governorship election held on November 11, 2023. That the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Good Hope Uzodimma, having scored the highest number of votes and satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the election and returned elected.”
Uzodimma emerged victorious with a total of 540,308 votes, securing a second term in office.
The results indicated that Uzodimma won in all 27 Local Government Areas of the state.
Following the announcement, Uzodimma is scheduled to be sworn in on January 14, 2024, to begin his second term as the governor of Imo State.
However, it is worth noting that the deputy governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Tony Nwulu, has alleged that security agents provided protection to INEC officials and members of the APC to manipulate the election.
Consequently, the LP has called for the cancellation of the election based on their concerns.
The LP’s state agent, Callistus Ihejiagwa, claimed that the local government area results were manipulated in favor of the APC candidate, which led to him being beaten and expelled from the state collation centre after protesting, earlier.
