Kogi Election: Tribunal Approves Counsel To SDP To Access Materials Used In Election

The Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal in Lokoja has approved a request from Counsel to the first applicant, Muritala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), for access to materials and documents used in the recent gubernatorial election in the state.
The order was granted after Counsel expressed difficulties in obtaining these documents from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) offices in Abuja and Lokoja.
The Presiding Tribunal Judge, Justice Yusuf Ado Birnin-Kudu, deemed the application meritorious and in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Law of 2023.
He granted the application that the first respondent INEC, allow access by Counsels to Muritala Ajaka of the SDP led by John Adele, SAN, and SE Aruwa SAN, to certified copies used for the governorship election within two days.
The tribunal chairman further granted a request to compel INEC to provide access to BVAS (Biometric Voter Authentication System) and other electronic materials used during the election within 48 hours.
This decision ensures that the necessary evidence can be obtained for the ongoing case.
