Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Others Shortlisted For MOBO Awards
The 2024 MOBO Awards have announced their nominations for Best African Music Act, and it’s great to see that Nigerian artists are well represented.
Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Rema, Ayra Starr, and Adekunle Gold have all received nominations in this category.
This recognition further solidifies their impact and influence within the African music industry.
In addition to the Nigerian artists, the category also includes South African duo Tyla and Uncle Waffles, as well as Cameroon’s Libianca.
It’s wonderful to see a diverse range of talents from across the continent being acknowledged and celebrated.
Interestingly, this year marks a shift in the Best International Act category, as no Nigerian artist has been nominated for the first time since 2017.
Instead, we see global superstars like Drake, Nicki Minaj, Sexxy Red, Ice Spice, Doja Cat, Latto, SZA, and others vying for this prestigious title. It’s a testament to the expanding reach and popularity of artists from various parts of the world.
Furthermore, the nominations extend beyond mainstream genres.
Nigerian gospel singer Limoblaze has been nominated in the Best Gospel Act category, competing against Annatoria, Guvna B, Triple O, and others.
This recognition showcases the diversity and richness of the Nigerian music scene, highlighting the talent that exists in both mainstream and niche genres.
Lastly, we must recognize the nomination of P2J, a Nigerian, in the Best Producer category.
Alongside competitors like Steel Banglez, Kyle Evans, M1onTheBeat, and others, P2J’s nomination underlines the vital role that producers play in shaping the sound and success of artists.
The 2024 MOBO Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on February 7, 2024, at Utilita Arena Sheffield in Sheffield, United Kingdom.
It promises to be an exciting event, honoring outstanding artists and their contributions to the global music landscape.
